Graduate interior architecture students Yuhung Tu, Victoria Gebrian and Iulia Taschuk were awarded the second-place prize in the 2013 Design with Light competition.

The national competition challenged students to develop an original architectural lighting design for Terrain, located in Westport, Conn., one of only two boutique home and garden retail centers owned by Urban Outfitters.

The PhilaU students received $700 for their wining project, Nursery Boutique & Café.

“Lighting design is one of the most important aspects of a successfully designed interior,” said Scott Ageloff, director of the M.S. in interior architecture program. “We are very proud of our students for receiving this distinguished award. Their entry represents the best of our program and its core values: collaboration, innovation and sustainability.”
The students were presented with their awards at a ceremony held April 24 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The judges included Stephen Hoppe of The Lighting Practice, Christy Rogers of Ewing Cole and Kirsten Carangi of Beam Lighting.

Sponsored by Lumenpulse, a leading innovator and manufacturer of high-performance, architectural LED-based lighting solutions for commercial, urban and institutional environments, Design with Light is a national student lighting design competition organized by the Philadelphia section of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. Other sponsors included the International Association of Lighting Designers and Lightfair.
